Structure
In addition
to the plenary and site visits highlighted above, the ambitious
and complex conference offered 41 workshops, two mini-plenaries,
and featured more than 150 speakers from all across the country
and from a variety of disciplines.
The workshops
were designed to appeal to conference participants’ interests
in four major areas:
The
Public System – Paving the High Road via the Public
Workforce Investment System (13 workshops)
The Demand Side – Retaining and Increasing
Good Jobs: Policy and Programs on the demand side of the labor
market (27 workshops)
The Supply Side – Helping Workers Prepare
for Good Jobs: Policy and Programs on the supply side of the labor
market (30 workshops)
Smart Growth – Encouraging Smart Growth:
Adding the Spatial Dimension (6 workshops)
There were also
sessions of special interest for registrants working in and with
the following industries:
Building
and construction trades (6 workshops)
Child care industry (4 workshops)
Health care (6 workshops)
Hospitality industry (3 workshops)
Manufacturing (10 workshops)
Public sector (1 workshop) and
Transportation (3 workshops)
Seven workshops
were designed to be of special interest to people concerned about
the needs of immigrant workers.
